Sudhir Suri, the leader of the Shiv Sena, was under police protection. But the attacker was able to kill him with at least two shots.

Sudhir Suri, a Hindutva right-wing leader in Punjab, was shot dead this afternoon on a busy street in Amritsar in an attack caught on camera while surround by over a dozen cops.

Mr Suri, the leader of a local outfit known as Shiv Sena Taksali. He has protesting against the temple’s management when at least 5 shots were fire from a pistol, allegedly by a local shopkeeper.

Mr Suri was under the protection of 12 police officers, and there were local cops on the scene. Still, the attacker Sandeep Singh, who has been arrest. He was successfully firing at least two shots that kill him before he could be take to a hospital. “The weapon has been seize, and further investigation is underway,” said city police chief commissioner Arun Pal Singh. Who did not elaborate on the attacker’s motivation.

According to sources, the attacker arrived in an SUV with three others, but they escaped.

Mr Suri, who did not run for office, was best known for his fiery and allegedly communal social media messages direct at certain Sikh outfits and Khalistan supporters.

The police commissioner urged the public to remain calm and not to respond to communal calls. According to local sources, residents of the Sikh holy city were exchanging tense messages and conspiracy theories.

Earlier today, Mr Suri got into an argument with some men from the management of Gopal Mandir near Majitha Road, One of the city’s busiest intersections, about allege idol sacrilege. He was on Facebook less than an hour before the attack. Showing some older idols being “shamelessly dump in the garbage. We will not tolerate such sacrilege, even if committed by fellow Hindus,” he stated in the video.
