Suniel Shetty Explains Why Shah Rukh Khan’s Stardom Remains Unmatched

Bollywood veteran Suniel Shetty has weighed in on what makes Shah Rukh Khan a phenomenon unlike any other in Indian cinema. Speaking on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Shetty offered a candid breakdown of why SRK’s stardom continues to transcend generations and borders, while no other actor has managed to replicate it.

The Secret Behind SRK’s Legendary Appeal

Shetty pointed to a combination of factors that set Shah Rukh apart. “He had music. In India, music matters. He had Yash Ji with him and the best songs. His commitment to his craft — reinventing and inventing himself all the time, the grace,” Shetty said. He further noted that Khan carries a completeness as a human being, giving respect while commanding it in equal measure.

Old-World Charm Over Social Media Clout

Shetty also drew a sharp contrast between SRK’s approach and that of today’s younger stars. “He’s not about social media. He’s not about posting. He has a yesteryear charm,” Shetty explained. He compared this to Ranbir Kapoor, who famously avoids public social media altogether. “His charm is that he’s not there. His work speaks, and the rest is for you to imagine,” Shetty added.

Shah Rukh himself uses social media selectively, primarily to promote projects rather than share personal moments.

The superstar is currently coming off a record-breaking 2023 run, having delivered three consecutive blockbusters — Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki — collectively grossing over ₹2,600 crore worldwide. He also won the National Award for Best Actor for Jawan in 2025. His next film, King, directed by Siddharth Anand and co-starring Deepika Padukone, is set for a Christmas 2026 release.
