Drawing crowds from far and wide, the Surajkund International Crafts Mela epitomizes the convergence of diverse cultures. Visitors are treated to a plethora of experiences, from shopping for exquisite handicrafts to witnessing captivating cultural performances and culinary indulgences.

  • Partner Country and Theme State: Tanzania serves as the partner country, while Gujarat takes center stage as the theme state for this year’s mela, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on February 2.
  • Global Participation: Nearly 40 countries, including Tanzania, participate in the mela, showcasing their unique cultural heritage and craftsmanship.
  • Cultural Extravaganza: The Virasat Cultural Exhibition offers a glimpse into the cultural heritage of Haryana, where visitors can don the traditional ‘Haryanvi Pagdi’ and immerse themselves in rural traditions.
  • Artisanal Showcase: Exhibits range from traditional wooden blocks used for printing to vintage measurement scales, offering insights into pre-Independence rural life. African craftspersons showcase a diverse array of cotton dresses, leather goods, and jewelry, captivating visitors with their craftsmanship.

Managed by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in collaboration with various government ministries, the mela continues to showcase India’s cultural heritage on a global stage.

Since its inception in 1987, the mela has evolved into an international showcase of India’s cultural diversity. This year, with the participation of eight northeastern states as cultural partners, the mela reaffirms its commitment to celebrating India’s rich heritage and fostering cultural exchange on a global scale.
