The Box Office for Drishyam 2 is GADAR! Three Things Bollywood Could Learn From This Ajay Devgn Film

Drishyam 2’s first-weekend box office performance has outperformed all industry predictions. B’wood should learn three things.

Drishyam 2’s first-weekend box office performance has outperformed all industry predictions. Ajay Devgn’s poor box office performance in films like Bhuj: The Pride Of India and Thank God hasn’t impacted the return of Vijay Salgaonkar and his family.

In some ways, Ajay Devgn and his team have brought back the ‘ache din’ that Bollywood was missing after films like Prithviraj, Laal Singh Chaddha, and others.

With the box office failures of remakes such as Jersey, Vikram Vedha, and Milli. There was a growing fear among filmmakers that every South remake would be met with hostility. Drishyam 2 alters this, but there is a catch! Ajay Devgn’s film had an advantage compared to the previous films.

The original Malayalam version, starring Mohanlal, was released during the global pandemic (6 February 2021) and thus went straight to OTT.

In some ways, this has helped the Hindi version reach a whole new and extremely large diaspora of people who were previously unable to watch in their preferred language. Aside from this advantage, Drishyam 2 had a lot of things going for it, making it a subtle continuation rather than a remake for the sake of a remake.

When we said Bollywood should learn from Drishyam 2, we didn’t mean it would be all good. Yes, it’s a good adaptation of Jeethu Joseph’s original version with Mohanlal, but it’s not without flaws. We discussed this in-depth in our Drishyam 2 Movie Review; read it and form your opinion about some unnecessary additions.
