Key Takeaways:

  • The upcoming historical drama Gandhi Godse-Ek Yudh by Rajkumar Santoshi, according to Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Gandhi Godse’s movie Ek Yudh will be released on January 26 in honour of Republic Day and the 75th anniversary of his passing on January 30.

Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, recently shared his thoughts on Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming historical drama Gandhi Godse-Ek Yudh.

The movie is based on a different version of Indian history in which Mahatma Gandhi escapes Nathuram Godse’s attempted murder and later visits him in prison.

Regarding the movie, Tushar said he wasn’t shocked by the attempt. Additionally, he stated that he would not watch a movie that “glorifies murderers.”

Gandhi Godse-Ek Yudh, set in early post-independence India in 1947–1948, will centre on the ideological conflict between Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi.

Godse’s perspective will be shown in the movie, and he will explain why he shot Gandhi in 1948. The two’s dramatic encounter was hinted at in the movie’s trailer.

“I’m not amazed because for them Godse is a hero, so if they represent him as a hero, it should not shock any of us,” Tushar Gandhi stated by ANI as saying.

Tushar Gandhi was discussing the film. However, I cannot comment on the film’s merits or shortcomings because I haven’t seen it and don’t plan to watch movies that glorify murderers.

“It is a very well-thought-out game plan, and all these characters were given roles to play, which they all fulfilled by their timelines and queues.

It’s not surprising that the same director would make a movie glorifying Godse because he portrayed Baapu in a very inaccurate way in his film Bhagat Singh,” he added.

In a previous interview, Rajkumar Santoshi stated that his film presents Gandhi in a very different light. He was so concerned that he feared the censor (board). He expressed concern that the censor might not approve the movie entirely. According to him, however, not a single word was cut.

Before the 75th anniversary of his passing on January 30, Gandhi Godse’s film Ek Yudh will be released on January 26 in honour of Republic Day.

Manila Santoshi, who produced the movie, produced the music, which AR Rahman wrote. Upon its January 25 release, Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, will compete with the movie at the box office.
