Unseasonal Showers Hit Gujarat, IMD Forecasts Continued Rain

The Unseasonal Gujarat Rain has made a huge impact, as Anjar in Kutch recorded the highest rainfall.

According to officials, around 50 talukas in Gujarat experienced unseasonal showers on Saturday, with Anjar in Kutch recording the highest rainfall.

The unexpected downpour has prompted concerns as light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is predicted to persist until Monday across various parts of the state, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.

Impact of Gujarat Rain:

Anjar registered 35 mm of rainfall within two hours between 6 am and 8 am on Saturday, while Dhanera in Banaskantha received 28 mm of rain by Saturday evening.

Other areas affected by the unseasonal rainfall include Bhabhar, Deesa, Vadgam, Kankrej, and Dantiwada in Banskantha; Dwarka in Devbhoomi Dwarka; Vijapur and Becharaji in Mehsana; Mansa in Gandhinagar; Gandhidham in Kutch; and Patan.

Urban Implications:

Ahmedabad also witnessed unseasonal rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms in various parts.

Consequently, the precipitation led to waterlogging on roads and traffic disruptions on several key routes within the city on Saturday evening.

Meteorological Explanation of Unseasonal Gujarat Rain:

Ramashray Yadav, in charge of IMD Ahmedabad Regional Director, explained that the unseasonal rain occurred due to a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation and an induced low-pressure area over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining regions.

This atmospheric phenomenon has resulted in unexpected rainfall. The IMD forecasts that light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is anticipated until Monday morning.

IMD Forecast Light Thunderstorm:

According to the IMD forecast, there is a likelihood of a “light thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph (in gust) accompanied with light to moderate rain” at isolated places in all districts of North Gujarat, as well as in the districts of Vadodara, Chhota-Udepur, and Bharuch. Similar weather conditions are expected in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Morbi, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Botad, Bhavnagar, and Kutch until Monday morning.
