Vadodara couple alleges son held captive in Thailand, police launch probe

Assistant Commissioner of Police (‘G’ division), GB Bambhaniya, stated that the probe has been handed over to the Vadodara city crime branch.

Parents Seek Government’s Help to Bring Son Home

A Vadodara-based couple has alleged that their 28-year-old son has been held captive in Thailand for the last five months, prompting local police to launch an investigation. The complaint, filed by Nagarbhai Ranpara and his wife Rita, claims their son Tushar Ranpara has been out of contact since early this year.

The couple suspects that immigration agents who first facilitated his move abroad may be involved in holding him against his will.

Journey from Dubai to Thailand

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) GB Bambhaniya of Vadodara’s ‘G’ division, Tushar initially traveled to Dubai in April 2024 with the help of two local immigration agents to work at a private firm. However, by September 2024, a Dubai-based agent named Abhishek Kumar reportedly arranged for his transfer to Thailand.

While Tushar remained in touch with his family through video and voice calls after arriving in Thailand, his communication abruptly stopped five months ago, raising fears about his safety.

Crime Branch Steps In

Given the seriousness of the case, the matter has been handed over to the Vadodara city crime branch. Police are now working to trace Tushar’s whereabouts and establish contact.

“The parents suspect their son is being forced to work without his consent, and his phone may have been taken away. The probe has been handed over to the crime branch for urgent action,” ACP Bambhaniya confirmed.

Family’s Emotional Plea

Speaking to reporters, Nagarbhai Ranpara appealed to both the Gujarat government and the central government to step in.

“He remained in contact after reaching Thailand, but for the last five months we have heard nothing. We strongly believe agents who sent him there are behind this. We request the authorities to intervene and bring our son back safely,” he said.

The case highlights growing concerns about trafficking and exploitation linked to overseas employment agents, with families urging stricter regulation and stronger international cooperation.
