Vadodara remains waterlogged after heavy rains: MP seeks relief package

Vadodara: Joshi, who came from New Delhi on Saturday, advised the state government to survey impacted areas and release a “suitable relief” package.

Continued Waterlogging and Damage

Certain parts of Vadodara continued to face waterlogging for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday, following heavy rainfall that lashed the city on Wednesday.

Some housing colonies remained under water, four days after the city received about 13 inches of rain in a short span.

Response from Authorities

Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi wrote to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, seeking a relief package for residents who suffered property loss or damage.

Joshi, who arrived from New Delhi on Saturday, urged the state government to conduct a survey of affected areas and release a “suitable relief” package.

Vishwamitri River and Ajwa Dam

The level of the Vishwamitri river dropped below its danger mark of 26 feet on Saturday after the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) decided to close the 62 gates of Ajwa Dam on Friday. However, the civic body reopened the gates on Saturday due to heavy inflow into the dam.

Letter to the Chief Minister

In his letter, Joshi highlighted the severity of the situation: “On July 22, areas of Vadodara city and district received more than 13 inches of rain in a mere 10 hours, throwing normal life out of gear… In the last three days, several low-lying areas and other affected persons have suffered damage to property, finance, and health.”

He emphasized the need for a survey by competent authorities and the declaration of a relief package by the government for the affected residents.

Call for Action

The situation in Vadodara underscores the need for prompt and effective disaster response measures. Joshi’s call for a relief package aims to address the immediate needs of those affected and help restore normalcy in the city.
