Chief Minister of Telangana state, expresses shock
over the massive fire incident; PM Modi says the incident is deeply unfortunate.
In the early hours of Friday, a
massive fire swept through the Srisailam hydroelectric plant on the border of states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It has now been confirmed
that nine people have succumbed to death due to the fire incident and among
them were 5 engineers of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation
(TSGENCO). Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter and termed the incident
“deeply unfortunate”. PM Modi expressed his condolences and said that his
thoughts were with the bereaved families.
Chandrasekhar Rao announces a
special probe, and compensation, due to the massive fire:
Telangana’s Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed his shock over the fire incident and has launched a probe into it. Additional DG of CID, Govind Singh has been directed by the CM to formally investigate what led to the reason for the massive fire. A compensation of INR 50 lakhs to DE Srinivas Goud’s family was announced by the Chief Minister, along with ex-gratia of 25 lakh each to other families of the deceased. Furthermore, one job each will be given to the deceased’s family and they will also be extended with other department wise benefits.
Short circuit led to the fire
at Telangana hydroelectric plant:
At the time of the mishap,
engineers were doing maintenance-job of electric panels. A total of 20
employees were on the ground floor of the powerhouse when the fire broke out,
revealed officials. After failing to contain the fire, 11 employees evacuated
the area via ana emergency exit, but 9 remained there, trapped, as thick smoke
engulfed inside. Energy Minister G Jagdishwar Reddy stated that as per the
video evidence obtained from the employees, the fire incident occurred due to a
short-circuit.
