Aamir Khan Calls Mahabharata Adaptation His Life’s Most Important Project

Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan has opened up about his long-awaited Mahabharata film adaptation, describing it as more than just a movie but a sacred “yagna.” In a recent conversation with Game Changers host Komal Nahta, the actor revealed that he has been mentally crafting this epic project for the past 25-30 years.

30-Year Vision Finally Taking Shape

When asked by a fan why no major Mahabharata film exists despite the upcoming Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Khan emphasized that his “work has already started from the inside.” The actor expressed hope that the project would materialize soon, calling it “his life’s most important project.”

Khan indicated that if everything proceeds according to plan, he would begin working on the adaptation this year. “In the next month or two, the initial writing process will start, but it is a time-consuming process,” he explained. The actor stressed that approaching Mahabharata requires special preparation, stating, “Mahabharat is not a film, it is a yagna, so you have to be prepared for that.”

Multi-Film Franchise Approach

Previously, Khan had discussed his vision with The Hollywood Reporter India, revealing plans for a multi-film project involving multiple directors. He envisions simultaneous production similar to The Lord of the Rings franchise model. This ambitious approach reflects the epic scale and complexity of the ancient Indian text.

The announcement comes shortly after Khan suggested in a podcast with Raj Shamani that Mahabharata might be his final project before retirement, underlining the significance he places on this mythological adaptation.
