Abhishek Sharma Becomes Fastest to 5000 T20 Runs

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the fastest to accumulate 5,000 runs in T20 cricket. The Chandigarh-based batsman achieved this milestone during the first T20I against New Zealand, scoring a devastating 84 runs off just 35 balls, which included eight magnificent sixes. His strike rate of 171.65 showcases his aggressive approach and exceptional batting prowess.

Similar Playing Style to the Universe Boss

Sharma’s technique bears striking similarities to Chris Gayle, the legendary Caribbean batsman who dominated T20 cricket for years. Both are exceptionally destructive down the ground and off the legs, preferring classical methods stretched to their extremes. While their physical frames differ, their run-scoring patterns are remarkably alike. Sharma has already accumulated 309 sixes in his T20 career, achieving this feat in significantly fewer matches than Gayle’s impressive tally of 1,056.

Rising Star Tipped for IPL Glory

The 22-year-old has surpassed mentors like Yuvraj Singh in six-hitting prowess, accumulating 261 sixes compared to Singh’s count. Chris Gayle himself has tipped Sharma to break his IPL record of 175 runs in a single innings, recognizing the young talent’s immense potential. With an average of 33 and already eight T20 centuries to his name, Sharma represents the post-Gayle era’s new six-hitting superhero.

As Sharma continues his meteoric rise, he is steadily swimming into the galaxy of legendary batsmen, promising to deliver more explosive performances in future tournaments.
