Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head Rewrite IPL History with Record Partnership

In a high-octane IPL clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head scripted history by notching their sixth century partnership together, becoming the joint record-holders for the most century stands by an opening pair in IPL history — equalling the legendary combination of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan.

Rickelton’s Blitz Sets a Daunting Target

The stage was set by Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, who blazed his way to a stunning 123 off just 62 balls — the fastest century ever by a Mumbai Indians batter. Will Jacks contributed a brisk 46 at the top, while Hardik Pandya added a brutal 31 off 15 balls in the death overs. MI closed out their innings at an imposing 243/5, leaving SRH with a mountain to climb.

History-Making Stand Falls Just Short

Abhishek and Head took the chase by the scruff of the neck, racing to a 129-run opening stand that had the Wankhede buzzing. Their partnership was the sixth time the duo had crossed the century mark together, a feat unmatched in IPL history. However, Abhishek fell for 45 before Head followed shortly after for 76, both wickets claimed by MI captain Hardik Pandya, who proved decisive with the ball just as he had with the bat.

Despite the heroic start, SRH ultimately couldn’t overhaul the enormous target, with MI’s bowlers holding their nerve in the back half of the chase to seal a memorable victory at their home fortress.
