The scenario in Afghanistan, upcoming India-Russia meetings and bilateral cooperation in safety and defence will discern in talks between external affairs minister S Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on July 9.

Jaishankar is currently on a 3-day visit to Russia. His discussions with his interlocutors have predicted to cowl the entire variety of bilateral troubles, including cooperation in the combat against Covid-19 numerous regional and international developments.

The talks with Lavrov may be Jaishankar’s main engagement in Moscow, and the Russian foreign ministry stated on Thursday the two facets will examine notes on “main global and local problems, along with the political system in Afghanistan, settlement in Syria [and the] scenario around the Iranian nuclear program”.

In an illustration of the differences between India and Russia on the Indo-Pacific concept, the Russian foreign ministry said the discussions are also predicted to touch up “approaches to the formation of dependable and indivisible security architecture in the Pacific and Indian oceans”.

Lavrov has been openly critical of the Indo-Pacific concept, which now forms a key part of India’s foreign policy and cooperation under the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue format. Last December, Lavrov had stated Western powers had followed a “competitive and devious” policy to interact India “in anti-China video games through promoting Indo-Pacific techniques”.

India has disregarded those concerns by announcing the Indo-Pacific is an inclusive idea that can also be joined using Russia.

The Russian overseas ministry referred to that interplay with India became “correctly developing in all regions consistent with a unique and privileged strategic partnership, which includes political talk, protection, exchange and monetary, navy-technical, scientific, cultural and humanitarian ties”.

The annual India-Russia Summit is slated for later this year.
