Heavy rains lashed Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday, closing all schools. Several areas have flooded, and the MeT department has forecast heavy rain for Gujarat over the next few days.
Heavy rain lashed Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, causing severe waterlogging and bringing everyday life to a halt. Due to the persistent rain, the district administration has ordered the closure of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) schools on Monday.
The city is still experiencing heavy rain, which has submerged underpass roads. Continuous rains lashed south and central Gujarat, forcing around 1,500 people to flee low-lying areas.
MEETING OF THE GUJARAT CM CHAIRS
Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, presided over a high-level meeting at the state emergency operations center. The chief minister met with top officials, collectors, and CS Pankaj Kumar to review the work being done to deal with the situation in South Gujarat, including Chhota Udepur, cause by heavy rains. Chhota Udepur received 433 mm of rain in 12 hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The chief minister visited six districts, primarily Chhota Udepur, Dang, Narmada, Valsad, Navsari, and Panchmahal. Bhupendra Patel directed that arrangements be made to evacuate people living in low-lying areas and kaccha houses safely.
In Gujarat, 3,250 people were evacuate, including 400 in Chhotaudaipur, 550 in Navsari, and 470 in Valsad. Because the Met Department predicts heavy rain for the next two days, the chief minister has directed all district collectors to prepare for additional evacuations.
RECORDED RAINFALL
Six districts have received heavy rain in the last ten hours, prompting the chief minister to call for immediate action and relocate people if necessary.
The CM has request that immediate action be take, and people be relocate if necessary. However, on Sunday, the situation in Valsad improved as the water level receded, allowing people to return to their homes.
Since Saturday, heavy rains have lashed several dams and rivers in southern and central Gujarat and Saurashtra. As a result, many rivers are nearing the danger zone.
DEPLOYMENT OF NDRF AND SDRF TEAMS
The state currently has deployed 13 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 16 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams. In addition, one platoon of the SDRF has departed from Vadodra for relief and rescue operations in Chhotaudaipur.
