Ahmedabad’s roads conditions worsening, no work done says congress

The Opposition in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has expressed concerns over the deteriorating state of the city’s road infrastructure, despite significant financial investments made by the civic body to improve it. On Monday, the Congress raised issues, pointing out that even after spending a substantial Rs 4,383.16 crore on road infrastructure over the past four years, the condition of roads remains poor.

According to the civic body, 336 large potholes have been identified across the city, and an alarming 1,53,408 road-related complaints have been filed by residents in the last five years. Shehzad Khan Pathan, the Leader of the Opposition in the AMC, criticized the slow pace of progress and pointed out that many of the potholes the city continues to struggle with were first reported during the monsoon season.

Pathan further emphasized that the civic body had promised to construct 96 white-topping roads to enhance the road infrastructure. However, he stated that only 40% of the work has been completed so far, raising doubts about the efficiency and commitment of the AMC in addressing the city’s infrastructure woes.

He also highlighted the number of online complaints filed by citizens—over 1.53 lakh—calling attention to the fact that this number might be even higher when considering those complaints submitted offline. The Opposition leader questioned the civic body’s ability to effectively address these concerns, given the massive number of grievances filed by residents.

The Opposition’s criticism underscores growing frustration among residents, who continue to face challenges with the city’s road conditions despite the large financial investments made by the municipal authorities. The issue remains a point of contention, with many questioning the efficiency of the current infrastructure development plans and their actual impact on improving the roads in the city.
