According to reports, an Air India Cabin Crew was caught with 1500 grams of gold hiding in his shirt at Kochi Air Port. 

The name of the Cabin Crew guy was Shafi, who is from Wayanad; he was apprehended with 1,487 grammes of gold wrapped around his hands. According to ANI, his shirt sleeves were utilised as a cover to pass through the green channel.

The 1,487 grammes of gold that Shafi attempted to smuggle would be worth more than Rs 75 lakhs at today’s gold rate.

Shafi was pictured with gold flattened and wrapped around his hands in a plastic wrap.

According to reports, the Customs Preventive Commissionerate had confidential data that Shafi, a cabin crew member on the Bahrain-Kozhikode-Kochi Air India Express flight, was attempting to smuggle gold into the nation.

Officials also stated that an ongoing investigation and customs officials are questioning Shafi. 

In a statement, Air India Express said, “A crew member on an Air India Express flight IX 474 has been arrested following an incident involving smuggling. They said the person had been suspended starting immediately. 

After receipt of the information from the investigating authorities, Air India Express will act firmly against the person, including terminating service, and has zero tolerance for such behaviour.

The customs department shared the report Chennai International Airport authorities seized gold bars worth Rs 3.32 crore. In the incident, two passengers, one of whom was a Sri Lankan national, were detained.
