Zydus Lifesciences Chairman Pankaj Patel’s life to be turned into a biopic; veteran actor Anupam Kher to play his character.

Padma Bhushan Pankaj Patel, philanthropist and chairman of Zydus Lifesciences, recently gave actor Anupam Kher the green light to create a biopic on his life. The conversation took place at the Zydus Corporate House in Ahmedabad on Sunday, where Kher, who has acted in nearly 500 films, revealed that this would be his 544th film. Kher will portray Patel, the visionary behind India’s fifth-largest pharmaceutical company, Zydus Lifesciences.

During the discussion, Kher asked Patel a candid question, considering the growing trend of biopics on prominent figures. He pointed out that now, as a Padma Bhushan awardee, Patel’s story could inspire many. “Would you be interested in having a biopic made on your life?” Kher asked. Patel, without hesitation, responded that if his life’s experiences could benefit society and inspire others, he would be open to it. “If my life’s learnings can reach the masses and people can learn from it, why not? I want to give to society, not own it,” he said.

Kher emphasized the importance of biopics in contemporary cinema, noting that such films often carry valuable lessons. He remarked that biopics don’t always need to be about well-known figures like Mahatma Gandhi, but can also highlight lesser-known individuals who have made significant contributions. Kher humorously added, “This conversation is happening because of the inspiration you’ve given to people,” before jokingly asking Patel if he had Rs 500 in his pocket to make the deal official.
