Routine Operation Turns Violent
The incident occurred around 8:30 AM during a drive initiated by the AMC’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department to impound unlicensed cattle in the North-West Zone. The operation was led by Assistant Municipal Commissioner Shrey Kumar Soni and included a team of civic officials, police personnel, private labourers, bouncers, and vehicle drivers.

Upon reaching Gota Rabari Colony, the team found around ten cows allegedly kept without a valid municipal licence. The cattle were reported to be owned by a man identified as Navghanbhai Haribhai Desai.
Tensions Flare Over Unlicensed Cattle
According to the FIR registered at the Sola High Court Police Station, when the AMC team attempted to confront Desai about the unlicensed animals, he became hostile and argumentative. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene, further escalating tensions.
During the confrontation, a man from the crowd, identified as Jigar Desai, allegedly threw a stone that struck Mahendrabhai Bhati, an AMC staff member, on the left side of his forehead. Bhati sustained injuries and required medical attention.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the attack, the AMC lodged a formal complaint, and the police have begun an investigation into the matter. Charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code are likely to be filed against the accused.
The AMC has strongly condemned the violence and emphasized the importance of civic cooperation during such public safety drives. Further measures are expected to be taken to ensure the safety of municipal staff during future enforcement actions.
