On July 17, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee ordered a complete ban on photography and videography within the Kedarnath Temple premises.
The temple committee has also put up warning banners throughout the Kedarnath Temple premises, informing visitors that if they are seen taking photos or videos, legal action will be taken against them.
‘Do not enter the temple premises with mobile phones; any sort of photography and shooting is completely prohibited inside the temple, and you are under the observe of CCTV cameras,’ reads a sign displayed in many locations on the temple premises.
In an interview with ANI, Ajay Ajendra, President of the Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, stated that pilgrims visiting the temple have also been advised to dress modestly and that these instructions have been issued in light of certain obscene behaviour observed in the past.
“Kedarnath pilgrims have been advised to dress modestly. “In the past, some pilgrims were caught filming and photographing themselves inappropriately inside the temple,” Ajay Ajendra told ANI.
The temple committee issued this restriction after a “wrong message was sent due to the purported indecent behaviour of certain pilgrims.” According to the Temple Committee President, warning boards have also been put at Kedarnath to properly enforce the guidelines.
Viral praposal video from Kedarnath Temple:
Following the viral video of a lady proposing to her boyfriend near the temple in Uttarakhand earlier this month, the Shri Badarinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) wrote to Kedarnath Dham Police, requesting a ban on filming in the temple area.
In the letter, BKTC requested that Kedarnath Dham Police closely monitor the area and take action against persons creating YouTube shorts/videos/Instagram reels to ensure that such an occurrence does not occur again.
This comes after a girl proposed to her boyfriend near Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath shrine. During this time, the girl’s buddy created a popular video on social media.
Following the video’s popularity, an online dispute ensued. The Temple Committee has taken a tough stand in this case after learning of it.
According to the temple committee, filming such videos or reels on the temple grounds negatively influences the site’s religious sanctity.
The temple committee has requested that the authorities take action against anyone who makes such recordings.
