BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly says that IPL won’t be played in India.

The former Indian skipper Ganguly feels that COVID-19 is here to stay at least till the end of 2020; says BCCI is looking for countries where the billion-dollar league can take place.

On Monday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly revealed that this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season will not be staged in India. Ganguly said that he believes the novel COVID-19 virus pandemic will stay in India till the end of the year or the beginning of 2021, which rules out the possibility of the billion-dollar league to take place at home. It will be a logistical & health infrastructural nightmare if many players from all over the world will come to India for the 13th season of the IPL.

COVID-19 is here to stay – Sourav Ganguly:

During a chat with Mayank Agarwal, Sourav said,” I think the next two-three-four months will be tough. We will just have to bear it, and by the end of the year or beginning of next year, life should be back to normal.”

The BCCI has already targeted September end or early October as the window to stage the competition, and the Control Board is looking for countries where IPL can take place.

After India became the third-worst affected Coronavirus nation on Sunday, BCCI is examining its options, with 3 countries offering to host the tournament. UAESri Lanka, and New Zealand have offered to host the IPL this year. All three countries have a low count of COVID-19 cases.

Talking about the latest safety measures issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sourav Ganguly said,” Saliva is an issue. Maybe once the vaccine comes out, just like any other illness, everything will be fine.” A decision on the future of IPL will be made soon, the former Indian Captain added.
