Case registered for theft of diamonds from Savji Dholakia Surat firm

Savji Dholakia is known for gifting automobiles, flats, and jewelry to hundreds of diamond polishers in his business.

Incident Overview

The police have initiated an investigation into the theft of three lab-grown diamonds, valued at Rs 44,400, from the Surat-based diamond export firm, Hari Krishna Exports, owned by renowned business magnate and Padma Shri awardee Savji Dholakia.

The incident reportedly took place on May 5, and a formal complaint was lodged on Thursday by Hitesh Lashkari, the firm’s manager.

Details of the Complaint

Hitesh Lashkari, responsible for overseeing the distribution and collection of Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) diamonds, detailed the circumstances of the theft in his complaint.

Lashkari’s duties include handing over the CVD diamonds to the polishers in the morning and collecting them in the evening at Dholakia Technology, located on the second floor of the Dholakia building at Gujarat’s Hira Bourse.

Discovery of the Theft

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Lashkari discovered the theft when he found three single-carat diamonds missing during his routine collection of diamonds from the artisans.

Upon questioning the artisans the next day, he did not receive a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, Lashkari escalated the matter to his immediate superior.

Initial Investigation Efforts

The company’s initial efforts to identify the perpetrator through CCTV footage were unsuccessful. This prompted Lashkari to file a formal complaint with the Ichhapore police station after obtaining permission from the company’s owners.

Police Response

Ichhapore police inspector A C Gohil confirmed the receipt of the complaint and outlined the planned course of action.

“We will check the CCTV footage, question the diamond artisans at the Dholakia Technology company, and also talk to the administration staff responsible for giving and collecting diamonds to the artisans. At present, it is difficult to say anything on this issue,” Gohil stated.

Background on Savji Dholakia

Savji Dholakia is well-known for his generous acts of gifting cars, flats, and jewelry to hundreds of diamond polishers working in his firm, highlighting his prominent status in the industry.

Next Steps

The police investigation will focus on scrutinizing the available CCTV footage, interviewing the artisans, and consulting the administrative staff to uncover any leads on the missing diamonds.

The resolution of this case will be closely watched given the high profile of the involved parties and the significant value of the stolen items.
