CJP Leader Links CJI’s ‘Cockroach’ Remark to Saurav Das

A fresh controversy has emerged around Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s now-famous “cockroach” remark, with Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke alleging the comment was specifically directed at the party’s co-convenor, Saurav Das. The remark, made during a court hearing in May, had criticized what the CJI called unwarranted attacks on the judiciary and legal system, and went on to inspire the broader Gen-Z movement associated with the party’s name.

Dipke’s Claims on the Remark’s Origin

Speaking to a news channel, Dipke said the term was used in reference to Das’s earlier work as a journalist covering the judiciary, describing him as an “OG cockroach.” According to Dipke, the comment stemmed from Das’s reporting history on court affairs rather than being a generic observation.Das Recounts Reactions From Legal Circles

Das, who was present during the interview, added that several lawyers and retired judges reached out to him after the remark was made, telling him it appeared to be aimed at him personally. Das noted that this was not his first such profile, pointing to earlier work he had done on former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud as well.

The claim adds a new layer to the ongoing public conversation around the CJI’s remark, which has already become a cultural reference point tied to the Gen-Z movement. Neither the CJI’s office nor the Supreme Court has issued any official response to Dipke’s allegations so far, leaving the matter open to further speculation and media scrutiny in the coming days.
