Cold winds grip Ahmedabad as North India sees snowfall

Cold breezes blew in Ahmedabad due to snowfall and increased pressure in North India. The temperature was recorded at 6.2 degrees in Naliya. Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the water bodies.

Sudden Drop in Temperature Due to Cold Winds

Snowfall in North India has triggered cold winds in Ahmedabad since Tuesday night, affecting residents who were experiencing early summer conditions. The maximum and minimum temperatures have dropped for two consecutive days, leading to an unseasonal chill.

Naliya Records 6.2°C, Fishermen Advised Caution

The coldest temperature in Gujarat was recorded in Naliya at 6.2°C, causing shivering conditions. Strong winds were reported in coastal areas, prompting authorities to warn fishermen against venturing into the sea. However, the cold spell is expected to ease by March 7, with temperatures projected to rise again.

Meteorological Department’s Explanation

According to Ashok Kumar Das, Director of the Ahmedabad Meteorological Centre, the sudden increase in wind speed is due to the pressure gradient.

  • Higher air pressure in the north and lower air pressure in the south has caused strong winds to flow towards Gujarat.
  • Since the winds are coming from the north, they are carrying cold air, making temperatures drop significantly.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

  • Gujarat’s weather will remain dry for the next seven days, with no major changes in temperature.
  • The current cold conditions will persist for the next 24 hours, after which the temperature is expected to rise by 3-5°C.
  • Ahmedabad and its surrounding areas will experience clear skies, with a maximum temperature around 33°C and a minimum of 17°C.

While the sudden cold wave has taken residents by surprise, relief is expected as temperatures gradually return to normal summer levels after March 7.
