Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala meets wrestlers protesting

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala arrived at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Thursday, where India’s best wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and said he was willing to shed his blood if necessary for grapplers’ justice.

Wrestlers protesting such as Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat have called for the arrest of the WFI chairman, who is also a Bharatiya Janata Party MP and has been charged with sexual harassment of sportsmen.

“If you need strength, I will give you strength; if you need blood, I will give you blood,” Surjewala, a Haryana native, said as he approached the protesting wrestlers.

“I offered my full support to the daughters and notable wrestlers who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the past 26 days, demanding justice for the atrocities committed against them.”

In this struggle, we are with these daughters in our thoughts, words, and actions,” Surjewala also tweeted in Hindi.

“My direct question to the Prime Minister is whether the daughters who returned after winning medals were family members at the time.”

“You didn’t hold back in establishing your reputation throughout the country by making video calls to them from thousands of miles away,” he continued.

They’ve been sitting a few kilometres away from your house in severe weather for the last 26 days, according to Surjewala.

“Leave them alone; you want to remove their peaceful dharna through police excesses.” Why have you remained silent on such a severe subject instead of taking action against the accused?” he said.

“Modi ji, you spread the slogans of women’s empowerment and Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao throughout the country.” For the next 26 days, the reality of your slogan will be seen at Jantar Mantar,” remarked the Congress national secretary.

Congress national secretary Jairam Ramesh stated in a tweet in Hindi, “Sportspersons who have brought laurels to the nation by winning medals have been demanding justice for more than 4 months, but the PM is trying to save his MP.” He encouraged Modi to speak out on the matter.
