Delhi overtakes Mumbai in Covid-19 tally race as India records 16,922 new cases.

India’s death toll due to Coronavirus rose to 14,894 and cases count increased to 473105.

On Thursday, India registered its biggest single-day rise in number of Covid-19 cases as it reported 16,922 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. As per the Union Health Ministry’s data, the country’s Coronavirus tally climbed to 473,105 whereas the death toll stood at 14,894 after over 400 deaths were reported in a single-day. The recovery rate in India improved to 57.43 percent as the number of recovered patients in the country rose to 271,696 with active cases at 186,514.

Delhi surpasses Mumbai:

Delhi became the worst affected region in India as it registered 3788 fresh cases which took the national capital’s coronavirus tally to 70,390. This catapulted Delhi to overtake Mumbai’s Covid-19 tally by 862 more cases. One-third of Delhi’s total has been contributed in the last week itself. This drastic rise in the number of cases can also be attributed to the high testing rate in the state. A total of over 4.2 lakh people have been tested in the state of Delhi. Maharashtra is still the worst affected state in India with 142,900 infections. Tamil Nadu is third with 67,468 cases.

Testing increased by ICMR:

Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that in the last 24 hours, around 207,871 samples were tested for novel Covid-19 virus. The increase in high testing is a progressive sign in the battle against the deadly virus. ICMR also revealed that so far, almost 75,60,782 samples have been tested in the country.

Globally over 9.4 million people have been infected and more than 482,000 deaths have been reported due to Coronavirus.
