Delhi’s Old Iron Bridge Shuts Down Due to Yamuna Flood Alert

Delhi Traffic Police closed the Old Iron Bridge (Loha Pul) from 4:00 PM on September 2, 2025, following dangerous water levels in the Yamuna River. The closure affects both vehicular and pedestrian movement until further notice.

Alternative Routes Announced

Authorities have established multiple diversion routes to manage traffic flow. From ISBT Kashmere Gate and Red Fort, vehicles will use Hanuman Setu connecting to Outer Ring Road via Raja Ram Kohli Marg. Northeast Delhi commuters from Shahdara and Seelampur should take Pushta Road, while East Delhi travelers must use Geeta Colony Flyover.

Safety Protocols Enhanced

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected relief arrangements near the bridge area, confirming that government teams remain on high alert with evacuation protocols ready. Drone footage revealed the Yamuna flowing significantly above danger levels around the bridge vicinity.

The closure strains Delhi’s traffic network, particularly during peak hours, as the bridge serves as a crucial connector between Central and East Delhi areas.
