As the US Presidential Election 2020 gathers momentum, President Donald Trump’s advisors have made a bizarre remark on the Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee, Kamala Harris. Trump’s re-election campaign advisors backed away from questioning Kamala Harris’ eligibility for national office, describing it as case closed, and calling the issue a non-starter.
Trump lauds the “brilliant lawyer” John Eastman, who questioned Kamala Harris’ eligibility”:
Last week, Donald Trump raised the issue twice in news conferences and heaped praises for conservative law professor John Eastman. Eastman, after doing avid research, has pointed out the Democratic vice-presidential nominee and Senator of California, Kamala Harris’ eligibility. He questioned Harris on her citizenship, as at the time of her birth in Oakland, California, her parents weren’t U.S. citizens. Trump lauded Eastman, calling him a brilliant lawyer, but stated that he wouldn’t be pursuing that theory, and stopped short of debunking it. Speaking at a press conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey, gold club, Trump said, “I don’t know about it. I have nothing to do with that. I read something about it. I read one quick article.”
Trump’s advisors refrain from aggravating Kamala Harris’ eligibility issue:
Steve Cortes, a Trump campaign adviser, on Fox News Sunday said,” What he’s saying is that we haven’t made an issue of this and we will not make an issue of this. It’s a non-starter from our point of view, for the president and the campaign. Talking in ABC’s This week was Jason Miller, another campaign advisor who stated that no one in their campaign was mentioning that particular issue. In their opinion, it is a case closed, end of the story.
