The former Samajwadi Party leader was undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital for several months; PM Modi mourns the demise of Amar Singh.

On Saturday, Ex Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passed away. As per reports, Amar Singh was suffering from a prolonged illness and had been undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital for the past several months. The Member of Parliament was 64. Many political leaders took their social media and sent their condolences, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who expressed their grievance. PM Modi even said that Amar Singh was renowned for his friendships across many spheres of his life. 

PM Modi tweets on the passing of ex-MP Amar Singh:

PM Modi tweeted that Amar Singh was an energetic public figure, who witnessed some of the major political developments from close quarters. He concluded his tweet by sending his condolences to his friends and family. 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh express condolences:

Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh expressed his sadness over Singh’s demise and said that Amar Singh garnered friendship & respect from all the political parties. 

Amar Singh was called “Corporate Thakur”:

A loyalist of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh was expelled in 2017 from the party for a second time. Amar Singh networked extensively for the party for 14 years, from 1996 to 2010, and was spotted with celebrities from across various fields like Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Subrata Roy, Anil Ambani. He was also dubbed as “Corporate Thakur” by one a rival politician. 

Amar Singh was diagnosed with a kidney ailment and had been fighting a battle of life and death.
