FIR has be logged against former BharatPe MD Ashneer Grover
On Wednesday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police filed an FIR (first information report) against Ashneer Grover, Madhuri Jain Grover, his wife, as well as family members Suresh Jain, Deepak Gupta and Shwetank Jain for an alleged 81 crore fraud in December 2022, as reported by BharatPe.
“The complaint was received at EOW, and an investigation has been conducted into the allegations levelled against the alleged persons.” “Prima-facie offences punishable under Sections 406/408/409/420/467/468/471/120B IPC (Indian penal code) are made from the contents of the complaint and investigation conducted thus far,” the FIR copy states, as cited by Hindustan Times sister publication Mint.
They are charged with eight serious cognizable criminal offences, such as 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant, banker, merchant, or agent), 420 (cheating and dishonestly causing delivery of property), 467, and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
The reason for Ashneer Grover FIR?
Ashneer Grover, former MD and the co-founder of BharatPe, has been embroiled in several legal battles over the previous six months.
In March 2022, he was sacked from the fintech for financial violations. In December 2022, BharatPe filed a criminal prosecution as well as a civil suit against Grover and his family, alleging fraud and seeking damages.
Furthermore, BharatPe filed an arbitration claim in Singapore to recoup limited shares and to prevent Grover from using the title “founder.”
A former colleague filed another complaint against the Shark Tank India star in January 2023. He was also sued for “unpaid shares” by the fintech’s co-founder, Shashvat Nakrani.
