Three boys, including one juvenile, were detained by Delhi Police in relation to harassing Japanese girl during Holi.
The search for those boys was started after the clip of the incident went viral on social media of a Japanese woman being harassed by some boys purposely to apply colours on her during Holi.
“The boys in the video were identified through meticulous efforts by field officers and local intelligence. Three boys, including one juvenile, were apprehended and questioned. “They have confessed/admitted to the incident/happening depicted in the video,” stated Delhi Police in a statement.
The event happened in the Paharganj neighbourhood of Delhi, and the woman initially posted the footage on Twitter before deleting it. She is currently in Bangladesh and is “fit in her mind and body,” according to her most recent tweet.
According to the statement, the woman has not filed a complaint with either the Japanese embassy or the Delhi Police.
Action has been taken against people detained under the Delhi Police Act. The statement read, “Further legal action will be considered on merits and in compliance with the girl’s allegation if any.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal also reacted to the video by expressing her anger in her Tweet, as she stated; very disturbing videos getting viral on social media displaying sexual harassment with foreign nationals on Holi! I am issuing notice to Delhi Police to examine these videos and arrest the perpetrators! Completely shameful behaviour!
Bollywood actress Richa Chadda also expressed her anger on Twitter as she stated, “Arrest these men” in a tweet.
The men harassed her and splashed Colours on her in the viral video. An egg was even smashed on her head by one of the men.
As seen in the video, the woman struggled to leave the group of men. However, she kept saying ‘bye’ ‘bye’ in an attempt to leave that group. She smiled for the camera before slapping one of the men and leaving the scene.
