India’s Coronavirus tally has crossed the 13-lakh
mark with the death toll over 31,300.
India on Saturday, registered
fresh 48,916 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours. The huge
spike has increased the coronavirus tally in the country to 13,36,861, breaching
the 13-lakh-mark. Deaths in the country have been consistently increasing with
new 757 causalities yesterday which rose the death toll to 31,358. According to
the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s new data, India has a total of
456,071 active cases of the novel Coronavirus, and 849,431 patients have been
treated and discharged. The health ministry said that although the percentage
of rising in new cases is high, the recovery rate is consistently increasing at
63.54 percentage.
Centre issues instructions to
nine states:
On Friday the centre conducted a video conference with 9 states that are at present witnessing a surge in the COVID-19 infections. In the high-level review meeting that went on for three hours, the Centre focused on six major issues like rigorous implementations of pandemic lessons, proper planning, and procurement to plug the gap in health infrastructure, and systematic containment, etc. The state governments of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, West Bengal, Karnataka, Assam, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh were given special instructions by the health officials of the central government.
Meghalaya announces two-day
complete lockdown in Shillong:
From midnight of July 26 to
midnight of July 29, the Meghalaya government announced a complete lockdown in
the Shillong agglomeration. The decision comes following a
spike in the number of Coronavirus cases in the capital. The Health Secretary
of the state said, “We are using the lockdown to complete the contact tracing
of positive cases reported on Thursday from some of the localities within
Shillong.” Chief Minister of the state, Conrad Sangma on his Twitter urged
people to stay indoors during the lockdown and hoped that the situation in the
capital city improves.
Over 15.7 million cases have
been registered globally, with more than 640,000 people dying due to the
Coronavirus.
