On Sunday, a bus carrying 35 passengers fell into a 50-metre-deep gorge near Gangani on the Gangotri national highway in Uttarakhand, killing seven people and injuring 27, officials said, adding that a rescue operation for one traveler who is still trapped inside the bus is underway.
The event occurred around 4 p.m. while the bus was heading from Gangotri to Uttarkashi.

Devendra Patwal, the Uttarkashi district disaster management officer (DDMO), stated, “Seven people were killed, and 27 others were injured after a bus carrying 35 passengers fell into a gorge near Gangani on the Gangotri national highway.” The injured were being brought to the hospital for treatment.”
The rescue operation was being performed by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and other personnel, he said.
Patwal stated that the identities of those who died and were injured were being determined. According to the preliminary information, the bus was carrying Gujarati pilgrims.
According to officials, the cause of the accident is likewise unknown at this time.
“Our teams were still carrying out the rescue operation at the spot,” said Lalita Negi, SDRF media in-charge. Twenty-seven rescued victims have been taken to hospitals for treatment.”
CM expressed his condolence:
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister, offered his condolences for the deaths of seven individuals in the tragic accident and wished those injured a quick recovery.

Supervision of rescue operation:
Uttarkashi district magistrate (DM) Abhishek Ruhela and Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpan Yaduvanshi are on the scene to supervise the rescue operation.
According to DDMO Petwal, nine ambulances were called to transport the injured to the hospital. He also stated that a helicopter is on standby to transport the injured to higher centres care facilities if necessary.
