Previous India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has countered that playing two Tests against England before the World Test Championship last may help New Zealand to adjust to the conditions. At the same time, India would participate in the challenge without having played any match since the suspension of the Indian Premier League.

Gavaskar accepts that if New Zealand loses the two matches against England, it will hit their resolve.

“The doubters are recommending that playing two Tests before the WTC finals will be colossal in addition to for the Kiwis as they will be match prepared and better adjusted to the conditions,” Gavaskar wrote in his segment in The Telegraph.

The other side of playing those two Tests is that New Zealand could get beaten and accordingly be low on confidence when they take on India, and there could be a few wounds and niggles to a portion of their vital participants which can occur toward the beginning of June in England,” he added.

The India batting legend further added that a new Indian group would be chomping at the bit to go, and it may give them the energy to push on and go for success.

“The other factor that will work in the Indian group’s approval is that they will be new and chomping at the bit to go and that sheer energy and excitement to have the option to play the game they love following a month’s hole will more than cosmetics for any absence of match practice,” Gavaskar composed.

“This is a group that has tasted achievement and that too in unfavourable conditions, so any misfortune will be viewed as a chance to show they have the get-up and go to transcend it and overcome it,” he closed down.
