The Goa government imposed a night curfew on Monday to increase Covid-19 cases in the coastal state. The curfew is said to be in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day.

The state government of Goa has also decided to close schools and colleges until January 26. Today, the decision was made at the Covid-19 Task Force meeting by state Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Meanwhile, Goa sets a night curfew reported 631 new coronavirus cases on Monday. With the positivity rate increasing by 16% to 26.43%, according to officials.

On Sunday, Goa had a COVID-19 positivity rate of 10.7% and 388 cases. With the new infections, the total number of cases in Goa reached 1,82,201 on Monday.

So far, Goa has reported five cases of the Omicron variant, four of which occurred on Monday. The positivity rate is the balance of all positive coronavirus tests.

As reported cases increased, the state government decided to close schools and colleges until January 26. After chairing a Task Force meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told reporters. That the government would also impose a night curfew in the state.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, the COVID-19 death toll in Goa remain unchanged at 3,523 on Monday. As no new fatalities were report. However, according to an official, the number of recoveries increased to 1,76,438 after 62 people were discharge during the day, leaving Goa with 2,240 active cases.

“With 2,387 new tests, the total number of tests conducted in Goa to date has increased to 16,37,091,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that 66 of the over 2,000 passengers on the Cordelia cruise ship, which arrived in Goa from Mumbai, tested positive for coronavirus.
