Bhopal: The operation even led to the detention of two key people allegedly implicated in the illicit manufacturing and distribution of the prohibited substance.
In a significant anti-drug operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Delhi, uncovered a large-scale drug manufacturing operation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The joint effort led to the seizure of 907 kg of Mephedrone (MD), valued at approximately ₹1814.18 crores in the international market.
The raid, carried out on October 5, targeted a clandestine drug manufacturing unit in the Bagroda Industrial Area of Bhopal.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two key individuals, Amit Prakashchandra Chaturvedi (57) and Sanyal Prakash Bane (40), who were allegedly involved in the production and distribution of the banned narcotic.
Operation Details
According to officials, the operation was initiated after the Gujarat ATS received confidential information regarding a major drug production racket being run from an industrial facility under the guise of a legitimate business.
Based on these intelligence inputs, the ATS, along with the NCB, launched a coordinated raid led by Deputy Superintendent of Police S.L. Chaudhary.
The raid revealed 907.09 kg of Mephedrone in both solid and liquid forms, alongside 5,000 kg of raw materials and various pieces of equipment used in the production process. The equipment seized included grinders, motors, glass flasks, heaters, and other apparatus essential for the manufacturing of MD.
Key Individuals and Setup
Chaturvedi, a resident of Bhopal, and Bane, from Nashik, Maharashtra, were allegedly operating the illegal drug production from a rented shed measuring around 2,500 square feet in the Bagroda Industrial Estate.
Authorities believe the unit was capable of producing approximately 25 kg of Mephedrone daily, making it a high-capacity production facility.
This operation marks a major success in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in India. Investigations are ongoing to trace other individuals involved in the illicit network.
