Gujarat’s Minister of Education and Tribal Development, Kuber Dindor, announced on Saturday that government school teachers who are drawing salaries without reporting to work will face strict disciplinary action.
This move comes in response to a recent case where a government school teacher allegedly continued to receive a salary despite living in the United States and remaining absent from duty for nearly eight years.
Crackdown on Absenteeism
Dindor, speaking at the 75th Van Mahotsav event in Chhota Udepur district, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that not only will the absentee teacher face consequences, but also the officials responsible for marking their attendance.
“The fact that one teacher was abroad and drawing a salary is a serious matter, but the person who marked this teacher’s attendance is at a bigger fault,” Dindor said.
Initiative for Broader Investigation
Following the discovery of this case, Dindor has ordered a proactive investigation across the state. He has requested reports from 32,000 schools to identify any other instances of teachers drawing salaries without fulfilling their duties.
The minister assured that any teacher found guilty of such misconduct, as well as the officials who facilitated it, will face strict disciplinary measures.
“If any teacher is found drawing salaries while not reporting to work or being abroad, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the teacher as well as the official marking the attendance, and they will all be sent packing,” he declared.
This strong stance by the Gujarat government underscores its commitment to maintaining accountability and integrity within the education system.
The ongoing investigation is expected to reveal the extent of absenteeism among government school teachers and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
