Gujarat Government to Recruit 24,700 Teachers by December

The Gujarat government has announced a major recruitment drive to fill 24,700 regular teaching positions by December.

This decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and was officially announced by government spokesperson and senior minister Rushikesh Patel.

Breakdown of Recruitment by Gujarat government:

The government initially announced the recruitment of 7,500 teachers for government and grant-in-aid schools. The recent announcement adds 17,200 more teaching positions, making the total 24,700.

Background and Context:

The announcement follows protests by candidates who qualified for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT). These candidates demanded regular recruitment of teachers instead of hiring Gyan Sahayaks on a contractual basis.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Classes 1 to 8: Candidates must have cleared the TET between 2011 and 2023.
  • Classes 9 to 12: Candidates must have cleared the TAT in 2023.

The recruitment process will take place between August and December this year.

  • Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools: There are 15,357 vacant posts against a sanctioned strength of 55,753 teachers.

These figures, provided by the state government, highlight the urgent need for new teachers in the education system.
