Gujarat Teacher Receives Salary Despite Eight-Year Absence

A head teacher from a government primary school in Banaskantha, Gujarat, has continued to receive a salary from the state government despite residing in the United States for the past eight years.

The situation came to light after complaints from students and villagers, who reported that the teacher, Bhavna Patel, had not been seen at the school for many years. According to students in the fifth grade, they last saw Patel in the third grade.

Payroll and Residency Details of Gujarat Teacher:

Despite her prolonged absence, Patel remains on the school’s payroll. She was the head of Pancha Primary School and has lived in Chicago since 2013, reportedly holding a U.S. green card.

Her name remains listed on the school’s roster, even though she only visits Gujarat once a year during Diwali when the school is closed. She does not come to the school during these visits or interact with students.

Parul Mehta, the principal in charge, stated that the issue had been reported to the taluka education officer, district education officer, and state education minister. However, no action has been taken so far.

Unpaid Leave and Disciplinary Actions:

The primary education officer mentioned that Patel visited the school in January of the previous year and has been on unpaid leave since this year. A show-cause notice has reportedly been issued to Patel, and disciplinary action is being pursued against her.
