DRI seizes goods worth rs 80 crore:

He said that the items were hidden in a consignment of garment accessories and women’s footwear with a reported worth of Rs 1.5 crore.

As per an official report, two persons were charged even as an investigation exposed that the importers did not exist at the registered premises.

It said that DRI officers had received input that goods from China had been misdeclared as garment articles and ladies’ footwear and could probably have high-end electronic branded goods.

The articles were being sought to be cleared through the SEZ way, and six suspicious containers were identified, the report said.

Goods found from the seized containers:

On the check, the DRI seized 33,138 boxes of Apple AirPods/batteries, 4,800 e-cigarettes, 7.11 lakh phone/electronic goods/accessories, 29,077 branded handbags, kicks and makeup products, 53,385 branded timepieces, 58,927 automobile parts covered in the imported goods, it said.

“The value of the likely misdeclared/smuggled articles is valued at Rs 80 crore against the declared worth of Rs 1.5 crore. Therefore, the goods were confiscated under the provisions of the Indian Customs Act, 1962,” it said.

The investigation revealed that the importers were not at the registered premises, and the alliance had used different dummy importers to smuggle such things.
