On the festival of Raksha Bandhan, 53,000 women from Gujarat’s Anganwadis prepared and shipped 3.5 lakh rakhi to honour the warriors guarding the country’s borders.

Raksha Sutra Kalash Honours Armed Forces in Gandhinagar

In a heartwarming celebration of Raksha Bandhan, Gujarat’s Anganwadi workers sent thousands of rakhi to the armed forces, symbolising sibling love and gratitude. The initiative culminated in a ceremonial event in Gandhinagar, where the “Raksha Sutra Kalash” was presented to personnel from the Indian Army, BSF, CRPF, and NDRF, in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.

This unique expression of patriotism and cultural reverence earned Gujarat a place in the India Book of Records, with representatives presenting an official certificate and medal to the Chief Minister in recognition of the feat.

The initiative, led by Women and Child Welfare Minister Smt. Bhanuben Babariya, was aimed at bringing the warmth of Raksha Bandhan to soldiers stationed far from their families. The rakhis, tied with affection by Anganwadi sisters across the state, symbolised a heartfelt tribute to the brave men protecting the nation.

Minister Babariya also referred to Operation Sindoor, a mission undertaken by Indian forces to protect the dignity of Indian women. She remarked that the gesture of sending rakhis was a symbolic way of acknowledging and thanking the forces for their courage and commitment, blending national pride with the spirit of Raksha Bandhan.

Widespread Participation and Recognition

The Raksha Sutra Kalash was received with appreciation by the soldiers present. The event saw participation from key officials including Dr. Vikrant Pandey, Secretary to the Chief Minister; Shri Rakesh Shankar, Commissioner of Women & Child Development; and Dr. Ranjit Kumar Singh, Commissioner of ICDS.

Personnel from the BSF, CRPF, NDRF, as well as Anganwadi workers and officers from the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, were also in attendance, marking a strong show of solidarity between civil society and security forces.

This meaningful initiative not only celebrated the bond of protection and love but also highlighted Gujarat’s spirit of unity and patriotism, leaving a lasting impression on the nation.
