Heatwave grips Gujarat: temperatures soar, IMD issues alert

IMD predictions further rise; warnings issued for North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch.

Ahmedabad Sizzles at 41.6°C

The city endured intense heat on Sunday as the maximum temperature climbed to 41.6°C, which is 2.2°C above normal for this time of year. The minimum temperature also remained unusually high at 26°C, again 2.2°C above average. Clear skies and no recorded rainfall added to the overall discomfort.

Humidity Drops Sharply

Humidity levels plunged from 45% in the morning to just 11% by evening, intensifying the dry heat and making conditions particularly uncomfortable. Similar hot and dry weather was reported across most parts of Gujarat, with only a few locations in North Gujarat receiving light rainfall.

Temperatures Set to Rise Further

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are expected to rise by another 2–3°C across the state over the next five days. From April 15 to 17, cities including Ahmedabad could see maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C to 44°C.

Heatwave Alert Issued

The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for isolated regions in North Gujarat, particularly in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha, and parts of Saurashtra-Kutch, including Rajkot and Kutch. These areas are expected to experience extreme heat conditions during April 15 to 17.
