Incessant Rainfall Leads to Waterlogging
Several parts of Gujarat, including Surat, Amreli, and Valsad, have been severely affected by heavy rain, resulting in extensive waterlogging.
Videos shared by ANI depict major cities inundated, with residents navigating through knee-deep water.
IMD Weather Forecast and Alerts
Pradeep Sharma, a scientist from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), reported that the entire state of Gujarat can expect rain over the next five days.
He stated, “A warning for very heavy rain is issued for the Gujarat Region… Orange alert has been issued for Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Dadra Nagar Haveli…”
Due to cyclonic activity off the coast, Southern Gujarat, including Valsad and neighboring districts, will continue to experience heavy rainfall, with light to moderate showers across the rest of the state.

Surat city recorded 3.6 inches of rain, with Palsana in Surat registering 5.2 inches. According to Dainik Jagran, over 2 inches of rain have been recorded in 11 talukas.
The IMD predicts that very heavy rains will persist for the next five days in Surat, Valsad, Dang, Tapi, parts of Amreli, Navsari, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli. In the last six hours, 134 talukas in Gujarat have experienced heavy rainfall.
Damage and Safety Concerns
The heavy rain has caused significant damage, including the collapse of the canopy at Rajkot airport’s passenger pick-up area near the terminal.
This incident, occurring amid the downpour on Saturday, follows similar infrastructure failures at airports in Delhi and Jabalpur within the past week. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Extended Rain Conditions
The IMD has indicated that the rain conditions in Gujarat will persist beyond previous forecasts due to ongoing cyclonic conditions. It has also issued warnings of potential thunder and cloud-to-ground lightning in the coming days.
