Heavy Rains Cause Severe Waterlogging in Gujarat Valsad

Since last night, heavy rains have severely affected Valsad, Gujarat, leading to widespread waterlogging and significant disruptions in the district. The incessant rainfall has caused connectivity issues, with several roads inundated and normal life brought to a standstill.

Impact on Valsad and Nearby Areas:

The downpour has particularly impacted areas like Kashmir Nagar, where a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Valsad administration were deployed to relocate nearly a hundred families to safer locations. The Auranga River’s water level has crossed the danger mark, raising alarms across the district.

In addition to Kashmir Nagar, the Chhipwad and Mograwadi areas faced severe waterlogging, leading to the closure of underpasses. The Bhangrakhurd village and Bandar Road area also lost connectivity due to the rising water levels.

Official Statement by SDM Astha Solanki:

Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Astha Solanki provided an update on the situation, stating that Valsad experienced approximately 12 cm of rainfall overnight. She explained, “There has been around 120 mm of rainfall in the city of Valsad since last night… Keeping this in mind, the water level in Kashmir Nagar of Valsad has started rising. So far, about a hundred families have been shifted.”

According to the weather department, Valsad district received heavy to very heavy rainfall between 8 am on Saturday and 8 am on Sunday. Valsad City recorded 253 mm of rainfall, while Pardi, Karpada, and Vapi cities reported 349 mm, 343 mm, and 351 mm of rainfall, respectively.

Red Alert Issued for Gujarat:

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Gujarat, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

Valsad has been particularly affected by this monsoon season, with previous episodes of heavy rainfall causing similar disruptions.

A few weeks ago, heavy rains and high tides in the Auranga River left seven people stranded in Hinglaj village, necessitating an early-hour rescue operation by the NDRF on August 5.
