Can a UAE driving licence be renewed from India?

On Saturday, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) explained the process for driving licence revivals after a citizen shared a concern on Twitter.

RTA explains all details about UAE driving licence: 

In a thread, a tweet penned a statement saying, “I want to restore my UAE driving licence from India.”

While numerous authorities in other areas of the world could easily ignore such a comment to an irrelevant post, the RTA went ahead and handled the concern.

The authority explained that UAE citizens who wish to renew their licences would have to be in the nation for the process.

“Thank you for reaching us. Kindly note that it is compulsory to be in the UAE with an Emirates ID and a proper eye test from RTA’s official optical centres in the UAE to renew your driving licence,” it said.

Required documents

For customers less than 21 years old

>> Original correct Emirates ID

For customers 21 years and overhead

>> Original valid Emirates ID

>> Eye test according to the needed category.

For delegates

>> A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

>> Original Emirates ID, if any

>> A diplomatic document for Embassies, Consulates and International Organisations instead of the Emirates ID.

For Emirati passport users without a family book (Marsoom holders)

>> Copy of the valid visa

>> Copy of the valid Marsoom.

For Emirati passport users, sons of Emirati women

>> Copy of the valid passport

>> Copy of a letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs saying that the customer’s mom is Emirati.
