Here’s the latest update on Cyclone Biparjoy by IMD

On Thursday night, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the strong cyclone Biparjoy over the east-central Arabian Sea moved roughly northwards over the same region.

The system is expected to intensify considerably over the next 36 hours. It will move approximately north northwestwards over the next two days.

Cyclone Biparjoy at Goa:

At 11.30 p.m., Cyclone Biparjoy was located approximately 840 km west-southwest of Goa, 870 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 870 km south-southwest of Porbandar, and 1150 km south of Karachi.

Squally winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are expected at the shores of Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.

For the next 5 days, rough seas are expected to prevail across the neighbouring areas of the south Arabian Sea. Similar condition is expected at Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.

Warning for fishermen near Gujarat coastal areas:

According to officials, fishermen in Gujarat’s coastal Porbandar region have been urged to return from deep water areas to the coast, and ports have been instructed to hoist the Distant Warning Signal (DW II).

Ports are advised by international protocol to hoist “signals” whenever bad weather is forecast over them in maritime zones. The measure is intended to warn vessels and safeguard the safety of marine activities.

What the Pakistan weather forecast says:

According to Pakistan’s weather forecasting office, none of the country’s coastline territories are in peril. The water conditions surrounding the system centre are spectacular, with a maximum wave height of 25-28 feet.

Meanwhile, the IMD has confirmed the arrival of a poor monsoon in Kerala, seven days later than usual.

“The monsoon’s progress is being tracked. “We will be able to talk about the onset of the monsoon over Maharashtra in the next two to three days,” said S G Kamble, the Mumbai head of the IMD Regional Meteorological Centre.

“The normal monsoon onset date over Mumbai is June 11.” “The normal onset date for the rain over Maharashtra is June 10, when it enters the southern Konkan,” he said.
