Here’s what US Navy says on Titanic submersible implode

According to the Wall Street Journal, the US Navy detected the Titanic submersible suspected implosion on underwater sound monitoring systems immediately after it vanished in the Atlantic Ocean during a mission to the Titanic’s wreckage.

According to the Journal, the implosion was captured shortly after the Titan went missing on Sunday by a secret acoustic monitoring system designed to identify submarines, citing an unnamed senior US Navy official.

“The US Navy conducted an acoustic data analysis and detected an anomaly consistent with a collapse or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titanic submersible was operating when communications were lost,” a US Navy official told the Journal.

ON THURSDAY, the US Coast Guard announced that it had discovered submersible wreckage near the remnants of the Titanic, which is 3,800 metres (12,400 feet) below sea level.

The statement marked the end of a four-day global search and rescue operation, with officials informing reporters that debris collected on the seafloor was consistent with the sub’s pressure chamber implosion.

According to OceanGate Expeditions, which operated the submersible, the five passengers are assumed dead.
