IMD predicts heavy rainfall in North India for 4 to 5 days

The heavy rainfall continued in areas of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday, suggesting the presence of the southwest monsoon in the region. 

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) daily weather forecast on Friday predicted a spell of heavy rainfall across north India for the next four to five days, affecting Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh.

The organisation stressed the need for citizens to stay prepared and vigilant throughout heavy rain.

“From July 8 to 9, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh are under a heavy rainfall alert.” “Be prepared for heavy rain and take necessary precautions,” the IMD advised.

The weather service has also issued a yellow notice for some regions in Kerala.

Heavy rainfall in other reagions:

Overnight rainfall in Kottayam, in particular, resulted in waterlogging in several residential sections of the city. Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragode districts were also placed on yellow alert, suggesting the probability of severe rainfall and warning inhabitants to be cautious.

Over central India, mild to moderate widespread rainfall with occasional rain is expected over the next two days, followed by a decrease.

During the next five days, widespread light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy to very heavy rain is expected over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur in east and neighbouring northeast India.
