A red alert has been issued for Gujarat. An oracountrylert is in place in several other states for Wednesday, July 3. With the southwest monsoon covering the entire India ahead of its usual date. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall across several states.
“The southwest monsoon has also advanced into the remaining parts of R, and anthan, Haryana, and Punjab. Thus, it covered the entire country on July 2, 2024, against the normal date of July 8,” the IMD earlier said.
Heavy Rainfall, Red Alert in Gujarat:
In Gujarat’s Junagadh, close to 30 villages were cut off after roads leading to them submerged following heavy rains. The Vanthali region in the district has recorded 361 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, ending Tuesday morning. Earlier, two national highways in the district were closed following a downpour.
On Tuesday, IMD noted that the southwest monsoon was ‘vigorous’ in the state, with widespread rain in Saurashtra in the last 24 hours ending Tuesday at 6 am. As many as 143 talukas of the 251 in Gujarat received significant rainfall from 6 am on Monday onwards, according to the data shared by the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) Gandhinagar.
Weather Forecast and Alerts:
The weather department’s daily bulletin on Wednesday morning said the state would likely witness heavy rainfall today. “A cyclonic circulation lies over north Gujarat and neighborhood in middle tropospheric levels tilting southwards with height.
The off-shore trough is at mean sea level along the Maharashtra-Kerala coasts,” IMD stated. Due to this, widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Gujarat during the next five days. Besides this, heavy rainfall has been predicted over Gujarat from July 3-5.
Red Alert in Gujarat:
Earlier on Tuesday, the IMD issued a red alert for several districts in Gujarat, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in south Gujarat’s Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, as well as other regions like Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, and Kutch.
