IMD Warns Raigad, Ratnagiri and Mumbai as heavy rain expected

As heavy rain battered areas of Maharashtra on Saturday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange signal for Raigad and Ratnagiri and a yellow alert for Palghar, Mumbai, Thane, and Sindhudurg.

“Moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy rain in isolated areas today,” said Indian Meteorological Department.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai received 104 mm of rain in the last 24 hrs, while the eastern and also western suburbs received 123 mm and 139 mm of rain, respectively. “The intensity of rain will gradually increase over parts of Maharashtra over the next 4-5 days.” “Indication of severe weather expected in the next five days,” said RMC.

Earlier on Saturday, the Andheri underground in Mumbai was stopped to vehicular traffic due to waterlogging caused by severe rain, and traffic was redirected to the Swami Vivekananda road (SV road).
