Key Takeaways:

  • Shivam Mavi, a speedster of Team India, made his presence known during the 1st T20I of the three-match series at the storied Wankhede Stadium.

On Tuesday, during the first T20I of the three-match series at the legendary Wankhede Stadium, speed merchant Shivam Mavi made his presence known for the Hardik Pandya-led Team India.

Mavi rattled the stumps of Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka. In the first T20I between the Asian powerhouses, speedster Mavi made his T20I debut along with Indian opener Shubman Gill.

When India began to play in the first T20I, match against the Dasun Shanaka-led team at the Wankhede Stadium, stand-in skipper Pandya added young Mavi to the bowling attack.

Mavi, a pacer, opened his international cricket career by dismissing Sri Lanka opener Nissanka in his first game for the Men In Blue.

Mavi took his first-ever wicket in the shortest format after giving up two boundaries in his opening over by outdriving opener Nissanka.

In the second over, Mavi bowled a peach of a delivery that sailed through the gate and shook Nissanka’s stumps. The official Twitter account of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also posted a video of Mavi’s first-ever international wicket.

Here is the story of how Mavi, a pacer, took his first-ever wicket in international cricket at the Wankhede Stadium.

More specifically, Mavi took out Dhananjaya de Silva in the fourth over to claim his second wicket of the game.

When Mavi finished taking a brace of wickets in the first T20I, match against the Islanders, visitors Sri Lanka were lowered to 24-2 in 4 overs.

Mavi made a memorable debut in T20I cricket, but Gill, the team’s star batter, had a forgettable day at work as the star batsman was out for 7 off 5 balls in the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

In the first T20I of the three-match series, India’s opener Ishan Kishan scored 37 off 29 balls, while middle-order batsman Deepak Hooda top-scored for the team without Rohit Sharma.

The Pandya-led Team India scored 162-5 in 20 overs thanks to Hooda’s unbeaten 41 off 23 balls as well as Axar Patel’s quick-fire 31 off 20 balls.

India marks a historic win against Sri Lanka in the first match of the T20I series.
